I’ve been called a “visual translator”.
After graduating art school and excited about working in the creative industry, I moved to Austin to embark on this wonderful journey. As life may have it, I ended up working in photography (a blessing in disguise which I loved). After years of working as a photographer I decided to go back to my first love: designing. I lunched 3Ps Graphical Solutions; a design firm with a mission of using my marketing background, printing experience and project management training to create designs that not only wowed clients but also got results.
Not soon after lunching the business an experience with a client changed my approach to the business and the industry of designing. This client went out of business in less than a year after designing a grand opening flyer! Being the self-reflective person I am, I couldn’t help wonder what went wrong. Was it the design, the wording, the choice of colours or fonts, the images, what could have gone wrong? Well if it wasn’t the design what else could it have been.
I noticed a trend, a lot of my clients were startups who were extremely passionate about their businesses, knew they needed marketing materials and that was as far as that went. Few had pushed passed their current needs to planning out the growth and longevity of the business.
My approach began to include questions that were related to the growth of the business. What were the company goals in the next month or year? I discovered there was a need to work with business owners to first articulate who they were, why they even started their business, what kind of clients did they truly serve, and to validate their aspirations for their business, whether it really did match with their target market. All this, before we spoke about designing.
Taking the time to work with my clients to first ensure that we had the right building blocks that will accomplish their goals now became my greatest fulfillment and challenge.
The original 3Ps stood for Print, Package and Photography (deliverables that I’m passionate about), however the new focus now is: Purpose, Product and Persistence; three essentials that I believe businesses need to have to grow successful.
Nothing gives me more pleasure and joy than working with individuals and companies to refine and articulate their business visions (purpose), create identities and or other marketing needs (product) and build a long term growth plan (persistence) for their success.
